Even today, piercings of all nature, even the humble ear piercing, still have a hint of wickedness. The body jewellery has a long history and is in other cultures quite “sociable” – and so beautiful!
The term “piercing” comes from the English – “pierre”. A piercing is when the skin and the underlying fat or cartilage tissue is pierced to attach jewellery to various parts of the body.
Piercing Jewellery
Piercing jewellery is usually made of metal, usually surgical steel or titanium. These materials are considered to be particularly hygienic, durable and easy to handle. Not so long piercing jewellery made of PTFE was introduced, a flexible material that is used primarily as a non-stick coating in cooking appliances and utensils! PTFE has very good hygiene and care properties that are ideal for piercing usages.
Body jewellery is used, of course, in many cultures for aesthetic purposes, but can also have ritual and spiritual reasons. Traditionally, ears, noses, lips, and genitalia are pierced, and in most cultures, materials such as quartz, mother of pearl, clay, horn, or bone may be considered for jewellery. With appropriate hygiene and care, these materials are not too problematic. Incidentally, the oldest known piercing dates to around 5000 BC!
Is there a piercing culture?
Of course, there is a separate piercing cultures, but as with other body jewellery, piercings can be found in almost every culture – whether it is the ear of a punk held together by safety pins or the navel piercing of the office worker – piercings are in all cultures and societies. Body jewellery is not scene-dependent, but simply a fashionable or aesthetic thing to do.
Where can I get a piercing on my body?
Well, wherever you want it! In addition to traditional piercings, which can go quite deep, surface piercings have come into fashion in recent years. These can be done in the area of the face, but also the nipples and the genital area are increasingly the focus of individual wishes. There are considerable differences. While the very common piercings in earlobes, eyebrows and nostrils heal quite quickly, an intimate piercing may take several months to heal.
What piercing should I have?
The “what?” And “how?” Cannot be ascertained in a nutshell. But hereby a heartfelt invitation is made to look around extensively on this website.
